Guess who’s back? Back again…
I could sit here and make excuses for months between posts. I mean, I am very busy and important after all! But due to previously established default mentalities – I think we all know why.
Can you believe it? Over 10 months into this whole different eating thing! The most common questions I get these days are ‘What have you done?’ and ‘How are you sustaining it?’. With that in mind, I thought I should start contributing some more practical advice on what I’m doing from week to week. I know the people close to me are sick of hearing about it – but this isn’t a diet.
We know how I feel about cooking. Not such a fan. That said, I am getting more creative on the baking front. But back to cooking for purposes of general sustenance and life. I would rather only have to do this once a week – and because I’m a big girl and I make my own decisions – this is what I do. So pending my social calendar, Sunday or Monday nights are now meal prep evenings at The Emperor’s New Swamp – aka Ali’s abode.
So, probs goes without saying, but organisation is key. If I can give you one piece of advice, go and invest in a sheet load of good, glass containers. You can freeze them, heat food up safely, and they generally have better seals to keep your food fresh. Very important if your investing your time and money in a weeks worth of meals. This can be an expensive endeavor. My advice is go to Ikea. Their FORTROLIG class containers have clip lock lids, removable seals and come in four different volumes.
The next thing you need to wrap your head around with my method is eating the same meals during the week. I make two meals and alternate for lunches and dinners. I think this is probably the most challenging part for a lot of people. Firstly I have the luxury of only needing to look after myself *all the single ladies, all the single ladies*, and secondly, I really don’t mind having the same meal a few days in a row, especially when it’s a meal I enjoy. I think this is also a frugality thing for me. If I’ve spent time and money on food – I’m going to bloody eat it.
There are a number of benefits if you can stack this up. You’ll get into a routine to help maintain consistency. You have greater control over portion control. If you’re organised and have all your meals ready to go – you are less likely to break off and eat something you probably shouldn’t. And really, you’re going to save money. I work with people who easily spend $15 every day just on lunch. My five days of lunches this week cost less than $15 total.
So, coming up I am going to start simply sharing what I’m eating from week to week as it changes. It might be boring – but it’s worked for me!
That’s it for now.
